Ms. Rivers just wow'd me with how much I enjoyed Dying to Love. I hadn't seen this book anywhere and then it was listed as a suggestion so I picked it up because I love trying new authors and wow. I'm so impressed with what I think is a debut RH.This standalone has such a nice blend of humor, feelings, action, tension, and steam. I'd be laughing one minute and tearing up the next and fanning myself the next. Each of the main characters is relatable in their own way and each has their own unique personality and quirks. These characters are also surviving a major trauma in addition to some having some past traumas, so there's also healing that needs to happen. I loved how awesome, kind, and protective these guys were (one guy pokes and riles the FMC up but I didn't think of him as mean). The FMC is hilarious, but also vulnerable and compassionate, while still being able to kick ass when needed.The focus of this book is the characters and their safety/survival, but not in a constant state of worry/terror kind of way. There's also no OW drama and even the zombies play a smaller overall part. The last chapter is a peek a little bit further into the future and left me with a huge smile on my face. I'm so excited to see what this author writes in the future, especially if her future characters are as wonderful as these. This was exactly what I needed to read right now. Kelsey is the perfect FMC and very relatable for being the end of the world.We meet her after the world has already been overcome with zombies and she’s been alone for along time. We get to witness the toll that has taken on her.While the book is extremely funny it’s also a deep look into what those hardships can do to you mentally. This book doesn’t shy away from her mental health or gloss over it as an after thought, and that’s my favorite part about this.The Men are fantastic! Each so very different that you can easily pick them out. Some RH’s tend to make men interchangeable, lacking any real depth or personality that sets them apart. This book does NOT do that.Linc, Grayson, Oliver and Devin really do burrow deep and make you remember them.I’m giving this book 3.5/5 mostly because I think this book and these characters deserve more of a plot and more story. This is a stand-alone and while I normally love stand-alone novels, I felt like it rushed to end and I wanted more. This book and these characters could have easily been a series and I’m sort of hoping the author takes a look at expanding on them. They deserve it.Spice is 3/5 - while there is a ton of tension and eventually sex, there really is no kink factor to the sex and that’s usually what I need to ramp up my spice rating. But there is some group scenes and the writing is explicit. So take that into account when you pick this up.Overall this book was a joy to read and I devoured it in one sitting!
